Siberia is so vast that you could only reach some of the settlements in the region on a helicopter, but even here Muslims have been worshiping and multiplying their traditions for centuries, with Tatars, Bashkirs and Kazakhs being the biggest Muslim peoples in Siberia.

Siberia's natural beauty is often rivalled by the magnificent and unique mosques, many of which are considered to be not only local attractions but also part of Russia's cultural heritage.

Barnaul Cathedral Mosque

The mosque that represents a cultural and educational center has been opened in 2000. One may call it a pearl of the city. According to the historical records, Barnaul hosted an old mosque and a madrasa, which were completely ruined. Thousands of Muslims live in the city today. And they actively participate in the development of the Altai Krai.

Under the protection of Allah

The interiors of the Barnaul Cathedral Mosque are designed in the traditional oriental style. The mosque is topped by a huge dome, hanging over the believers like the sky. Regular Juma prayers are held in the mosque since 2000. On holidays the believers occupy all adjacent territories.

Main Mosque of Siberia

Siberia Cathedral Mosque is located in Omsk city and is the largest mosque in the region. The old mosque and madrasa were built here in the XIX century. However, later they were closed and destroyed. The modern mosque despite its sizes is unable to accommodate all believers during the holiday prayers, evidencing the growing spirituality among the population.

Mosque that links generations

It is remarkable that the mosque between Babarinka and Kaftanchikovo villages in Tomsk was built by the descendants of the first imam, who had been pastored there more than 100 years ago right before the anti-religious persecution initiated by the Bolsheviks.

Chita Cathedral Mosque

The mosque was built in 1906 in the Muslim quarter. Mohammedan community and Russian and Tater school were organized at the mosque. Currently, the mosque is located in the historical city center and is the only one piece of old Muslim architecture in Zabaykalsky region that has remained intact. In 2015, after the major reconstruction backed by the Russian Council of Muftis, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Government of Zabaykalsky Krai, the mosque was opened once again. The complex also includes the madrasa and the old house.

Crescent over Altai

Altai is one of the most picturesque places in Russia. The region is considered to be the Motherland of the Turkic tribes, now represented here mainly by Kazakhs and Tatars. One may find the mosques in the tops of the picturesque hills in the Southern Altai.

Red Tomsk Mosque

The mosque was built in 1904 instead of a wood one. In 1907, it was accomplished by the madrasa. In 1931, the mosque was closed. To understand how the Soviet regime treated the religion, suffice to say, the mosque was used as a shop for liqueurs and spirits plant. The building was returned to the Muslims in 1990. In 2015, after the reconstruction, the mosque obtained its original design. This is the example of the triumph of lawful (Halal) over forbidden (Haram).

Mosque at the intersection of all roads

The Irkutsk Cathedral Mosque established in 1987 is an architectural monument of federal importance. Initially, the mosque's minaret was made of wood. It was destroyed during the first years of the Soviet rule. In 2011, all wood slabs were replaced with reinforced-concrete ones. The roof was replaced too. In 2012, the building obtained its original design with new facades and 28 m height minaret.

Cathedral Mosque of Sheikh Kunta-Haji Kishiyev in Novosibirsk

The mosque was named after the Caucasian Sufi Sheikh, who had lived in the latter half of the XIX century. The total area of the mosque is 1,800 square meters. It can accommodate 2,500 believers. Further, there will be constructed a spiritual Muslim complex. 14 Muslim communities are registered across the Novosibirsk region. There are eighth active mosques, three of which are located in Novosibirsk.

Forest fantasy

The Iman Mosque is located in Lesosibirsk town with a big timber logging plant. The mosque is a big stone building with a huge minaret. It reaches 16 m in height. The mosque consists of two prayer halls with total area of 400 square meters.

The mosque in Kazachiskoye settlement in Krasnoyarsk Krai has a very interesting history. It was funded by an old woman, who dreamed of participating in the construction of the mosque.

Winter samas of Krasnoyarsk

The winter paints the patterns on the windows, reflecting the Krasnoyarsk Cathedral Mosque. The foundation stone of this mosque was laid in May 1995. On November 20th, 2000, the official inauguration took place. Krasnoyarsk Krai is very big. The distance from Norilsk mosque to Krasnoyarsk mosques is 2,800 kilometers.

Silver wisdom of Yeniseysk

It seems that the frost makes the grey beard of a believer passing towards the oldest Yeniseysk Mosque in Krasnoyarsk Krai even more grey. The mosque was built in 1905. Now this eclectic building is a heritage, representing the Muslim architectural style of the end of the XIX century.

Dishes of Shahenshahs

Plov is a traditional dish of the Turkic peoples with a long history that is rooted at the time of ancient kingdoms. Usually plov contains a solid portion of meat. However, in some special cases, for example, on wedding ceremonies, the cookers make sweet plov with dried fruits.

Cooking Test

Peremech is probably the most famous dish in Tatar and Bashkir cuisines. It is a fried-in-oil or baked round pasty of unleavened or leavened dough filled with ground meat. It has a small round hole on one side that is usually used to add sour cream or chicken broth. This dish was consired ro be one to judge cooking skills of a young girl.
